Coleman Premium Dual Fuel Lantern Review

I recently added a second one of these classic lanterns to my collection, initially drawn to them in March 2022. Although the specifications have slightly adjusted from 861 lumens to 700 lumens, the charm and functionality of these lanterns remain unparalleled.

What draws me to these lanterns is a blend of nostalgia for old-world technology and their undeniable utility. While they embrace a more traditional operation using gasoline or white gas, reminiscent of simpler times, their efficiency and ambiance are unmatched.

The reasons for my fondness for these lanterns are manifold:

  • Nostalgia: The design and operation harken back to a bygone era, offering a tangible piece of history that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Reliability during Power Outages: Having experienced significant power outages, the need for reliable, diverse lighting solutions became apparent. These lanterns stood out as a dependable source during those times.
  • Enhancing Outdoor Experiences: Whether it’s illuminating a cozy evening on the patio or lighting up a car camping adventure, these lanterns add a warm, inviting glow.

Pros:

  • The lanterns shine brightly, making any space feel welcoming and well-lit.
  • They are user-friendly after a brief learning period and are incredibly fuel-efficient, making them cost-effective in the long run.
  • Offering a unique and varied light source, they’re invaluable for emergency preparedness and outdoor adventures.

Considerations:

  • The lanterns produce a soft, ambient whoosh sound in operation, adding to the outdoor experience.
  • They come with a slight learning curve and will require some maintenance, such as occasional mantle changes, which is a small trade-off for their overall value and performance.
  • Safety is paramount; these lanterns are designed with outdoor use in mind. When used with mindfulness to their nature, such as not leaving them unattended around children or pets, they provide a safe and enjoyable experience.

For indoor use in emergencies, precautions like fueling and lighting outdoors, alongside having safety measures like CO detectors and fire extinguishers, ensure peace of mind.
